Coral reefs. Permafrost. The Amazon.

The planet is approaching moments of dramatic transformation – tipping points where slow, gradual changes in ecosystems brought on by climate change suddenly reach critical thresholds. Once a tipping point is reached, the impacts can be monumental and even irreversible. As global temperatures reach 1.5 warming and more, we might be witness to the collapse of several natural enviroments. How close are we to the tipping points of some of our most vulnerable ecosystems?  And what other hidden threats can we expect once the point of no return has been reached?

We will dive deeper into three of these fragile systems: coral reefs, the once vibrant underwater landscapes that have seen massive bleaching events as the oceans warm, permafrost, the frozen ground now cracking open and oozing greenhouse gases; and the Amazon rainforest, the Earth’s green lung, which might go from storing carbon, to becoming one of the largest sources of emissions.
